Abstract :
Trade-union recognition and industrial democrarcy are two subjects very much in today´s headlines. The Rt. Hon. Albert Booth, Secretary of State for Employment, sees both as essential ingredients for progress in Britain´s industry. He tells Caroline Weinstein that he believes managers face an almost impossible task without consultation. On trade union recognition, he emphasises that the Grunwick dispute is by no means typical but that it is these atypical events that prejudice foreign customers against buying British. On earnings, he points out that the new `wage agreement¿ allows incentive payments to be made for productivity or self-financing deals
