Abstract :
Researchers seek a means of constructing a powerful code with the same performance as long codes so as to enable ML decoding to be broken down into simpler partial decoding steps. Turbo codes represent one of the most successful methods; they consist of two simple constituent encoders linked by an interleaver. The interleaver performs a permutation function and changes the weight distribution of the code, helping to increase the minimum distance and lower the error coefficient. The influence of interleavers on the performance of turbo codes is investigated
