Abstract :
Several alternatives for a new broadband fiber network (possibly a broadband integrated services hybrid analog and digital network, termed BISHN) that will relieve the congestion that a large number of video channels may produce with the present BISDN (broadband integrated services digital network) are described. In this system the broadcast layer would be configured in analog form. The architecture of the BISHN is discussed and compared with alternative configurations. The use of photonic switches is considered.<>
