Abstract :
We present three-dimensional (3D) finite-element simulation results on the radio frequency (RF) coupling in a 433-MHz near-field biotelemetry link for an artificial hip joint. We verified the accuracy of the model through comparison of simulations and measurements of a 433-MHz mock telemetry link in a 6-cm-thick porcine thigh. The model has cylindrical symmetry, and electrically short linear wire antennas at both the embedded transmitter and external receiver. Based on our simulations, we evaluate the feasibility of the link under various conditions.
