Abstract
An overpumping prevention system was designed to protect the upper reservoir dam structures and, therefore, the power house and surrounding countryside at the Rocky Mountain Pumped Storage Hydro Project. This system uses three independent systems for checking reservoir levels. Two of them automatically trip the units, if necessary. Fiber optic communications are used to link the instrumentation at the upper reservoir to the powerhouse.
