Abstract :
The market for applications using digital video and audio is rapidly expanding and has become a target for increasing system integration, to meet hard requirements on cost and functionality. Recent designs address some requirements, providing, e.g. MPEG 2 decoding at reasonable cost, but are typically fixed-focus and limited in scope. This paper describes a chip set, encapsulating many of the functions required in high quality consumer audio-visual platforms. It is powerful, and also very flexible, but of low cost. Based around a low-cost, high-performance RISC processor core, it is intended to serve in a wide range of applications
