Abstract
Despite the usual hum around emerging technologies like XML, MP3, and streaming video, the real workhorse of the Internet is still SMTP. And of course, riding that pony is e-mail, which has changed our lives perhaps even more profoundly, albeit less visibly, than the younger and more glitzy HTTP. Unfortunately, e-mail is often wielded more like a sword than a scalpel. As network and Web administrators, we´re often called upon to do someone else´s dirty work when it comes to implementing a new e-mail based service or product, and so keeping current on relevant technical and ethical issues is a good way to ensure sanity for everyone involved
