            Abstract : 
Direct modulation of an uncooled 1.3 μm InGaAsP ridge waveguide laser at 10 Gbit/s is demonstrated at temperatures up to 70°C, with extinction ratios of >8 dB. Transmission over 2.2 km of single-mode fibre at 70°C is achieved with a total power penalty of 2.5 dB
