Abstract :
Vehicular ad hoc networks can exist for very short periods of time; in that time data must be transmitted to neighbours and other interested devices. The latency of the data when crossing the medium is an important metric to study when designing intelligent transport systems and safety-of-life applications. We present a study of a substantial parameter space to expose universal behaviours, that enables the efficiency of the network to be measured and analysed. We show that the communication density function, of Jiang et al. , can reduce the complexity of the network behaviours and that average latencies for a network can be calculated from a single function.
