Abstract :
The general methods of determining the natural frequencies of simple systems are first considered. The method of reducing the Diesel engine and generator to ta system suitable for calculation is then dealt with, after which an examination is made of the modes of vibration most commonly encountered in practice and the method of discriminating between major and minor critical speeds. The damper and torsiograph are then described, and the paper concludes with several actual examples of sets in which torsional resonance has been encountered.
