Abstract :
Fire hazards are classified into thermal hazards, associated with the generation of heat, and nonthermal hazards, associated with the generation of smoke and toxic and corrosive products. Both types of hazard can be present in the ignition or smoldering zone where the fire initiates and beyond it as the fire propagates. Hazards in these two stages are examined separately, and steps taken to reduce hazards are noted.<>
