Abstract
A technique is described for carrying out measurements of the impedance angle of the human body. It is shown that this is a measurement of true physiological significance independent of electrode and skin effects. A study is made of the impedance angle in the normal subject and reference is made to an investigation in which it has been shown that in cases of thyrotoxicosis there is a correlation between the impedance angle and the basal metabolic rate. The variation of impedance angle in thyrotoxicosis is a reliable aid to the diagnosis of this disease.
