Abstract :
This paper presents observations of the luminosity of spherical stratified glow discharges with a small anode in glow and Townsend gas discharges. Stratification is observed for all pure gases (Ar, N2, He, CO2, and CH4) tested in the Townsend regime of the discharge, but stratification in the glow regime of the discharge is observed only in gases with admixtures of polyatomic gases (acetone, benzene, and C2 H5OH).
