Abstract
Direct Instantaneous Torque Control (DITC) is an one way of controlling torque in switched reluctance motors. Despite the presence of DITC control, torque ripple at nominal or higher speeds is considerable due to the Back emf increasing. Moreover, the switched reluctance motor has a low power factor as it draws a pulse current from the source. This paper presents a DITC for a switched reluctance motor (SRM) using a proposed converter to improve the power factor and to reduce the torque ripple. The proposed converter reduces the torque ripple at rated or higher speeds. The proposed converter is compared with an asymmetric one via simulation results using Matlab.
