Abstract :
The desirability of reasonable standardization of tariffs is advocated by the author, even if it be admitted that complete standardization is not yet feasible. In the case of domestic premises, in spite of the fact that neither the size-of-house nor the rateable-value tariff is strictly equitable, these tariffs have been so generally adopted, and have in practice produced such results, satisfactory both to the electricity undertakings and to the consumer, that in the author´s opinion the time is now opportune for their general adoption by all undertakings, and any delay in such adoption, due to the search for a more scientific or equitable system, will be detrimental to the electricity supply industry. For business premises the maximum-demand system is put forward as the simplest method of increasing sales without introducing complications.
