Abstract :
A novel planar lightwave circuit (PLC) connector utilising physical contact (PC) between bare fibres and waveguides was developed. This connector allows the use of PLC-based optical modules without fibre pigtails. The fabricated connectors successfully realised average connection and return losses of 0.25 and 43 dB, respectively
