Abstract :
The present study investigates a very simple and inexpensive superhydrophobic coating preparation by spray-coating a silicone rubber/stearic acid mixture on a flat surface using a one-step process. The wettability of the coatings was found to be dependent on the surface morphology that was governed by the stearic acid concentration. A water static contact angle of 160° ± 3 and low contact angle hysteresis of 4° ± 1 was obtained for the surface coated with 43 wt% of stearic acid, on which water droplet easily roll off and bounce. At supercooled temperature (-15°C) the fabricated superhydrophobic coating showed an important delayed freezing time and icephobic behaviour.
