Title :
Organization of a meter test department of a large supply undertaking, with special reference to the Electricity Supply (Meters) Act, 1936
Abstract :
The paper refers only to a.c. meters of the whole-current type, up to a capacity of 50 amperes. Section (1) discusses the methods of test allowed by the Electricity Commissioners, contrasts their advantages and disadvantages, and advocates the adoption of one method. Reference is made to the ¿off circuit¿ testing of meters and their overhaul and re-calibration, and a method of procedure is suggested. Mention is made of the testing of polyphase meters, and the laboratory apparatus needed to comply with the Commissioners´ requirements. Section (2) discusses the collation of information regarding meter performance, for guidance in the purchase of new meters and as an indication of the need for overhaul and re-test. Section (3) briefly describes the keeping of meter records, and mentions a system which lends itself to the easy abstraction of statistical information. Section (4) gives costs for the overhaul and testing of meters in a meter department, using the methods advocated in the paper.
