Abstract :
A new iterative equalisation-decoding scheme is presented in which the decoder provides not only extrinsic information but also hard decisions of the coded bits for the next iteration. In the equaliser, the extrinsic information is used as the a priori probabilities of the transmitted bits, while hard decisions of the coded bits are utilised to improve the channel estimation. As a result, a significant gain in performance is achieved with respect to conventional iterative schemes in practical mobile channels
