Abstract :
Following a financial and technical comparison between the electric supply systems of the world´s largest cities, such as New York, London, Paris, and Berlin, and a short account of the supply systems of large German cities, the recent advances in urban electricity distribution are described. It is shown which particular developments have improved the reliability and economic position of the undertakings concerned. The maintenance methods employed on large urban networks are described, and in conclusion it is established how far the progress attained will simplify the layout of supply networks in the future. The lecture concludes with an account of operating experience on the Berlin supply network.
