Abstract :
The gain characteristics of an erbium-doped fibre are investigated, as a function of pump wavelength, with a Ti:sapphire laser. It is shown that for constant pump power and pump wavelength varying between 966 and 1004 nm near constant gain is possible. In addition a semiconductor laser, with a pump wavelength varying between 986 and 1000 nm, was used to verify this result.
