Abstract :
A novel pattern-reconfigurable antenna is investigated for wireless application. The antenna operates over a bandwidth from 2.4 to 2.8 GHz with good impedance matching and the gain around 8 dB. Switchable driven monopole and parasitic elements are designed to provide three modes with 17 fundamental radiation patterns. The parasitic elements can be switched to be a director or a reflector by controlling the RF switch on the parasitic element. Meanwhile, the driven monopole can match different switch combinations of parasitic elements by switching its length. We investigate the antenna´s impedance bandwidth and its radiation characteristics. Simulated and measured results are given, and they agree well with each other.
