Abstract
There are two major reasons why engineers have to consider environmental protection when designing and constructing power-generating schemes and electronics facilities ¿ practical and moral. In practical terms, environmental mischief can cost money, increase the danger to public health and result in political opposition. In moral terms, developments that are incompatible with environmental processes betray our humanness and our responsibilities to the earth and our descendants. This is the second article in our second series on `Engineering and Society¿
