Abstract
The origin of errors in the calculation of dispersion of optical fibres using an approach presented by Sharma et al. (1982) is found. Such errors are due to the strongly-guided characteristics of dispersion-flattened and dispersion-shifted optical fibres, which will not be met in handling conventional type optical fibres with weakly-guided field patterns.
