Abstract :
Over recent years the economic recession resulted in reduced electricity sales and as a consequence created an excess of generating capacity on the CEGB system which was reduced by progressively advancing the retirement of plant. This position of excess capacity is changing as the UK economy picks up, and there is now a need for new power stations to be planned and built to meet rising demand and to replace existing older plant which will be coming to the end of its operational life
