Wire broadcasting investigations at audio and carrier frequencies

The general principles underlying the design of wire broadcasting systems for the distribution of programmes at audio and carrier frequencies are considered. In Part 1, relating to audio frequency, questions concerning the remote control of receiving and amplifying stations are discussed. Details of tests on distribution cables are given, and it is shown that, with any particular load, attenuation can be rendered reasonably constant over the audio-frequency band. In Part 2 brief consideration is given to the utilization of electricity supply networks for the distribution of programmes at carrier frequencies. The theoretical and practical aspect of the utilization of telephone lines for the same purpose is treated in greater detail.
