Abstract
A compact optical fiber sensor based on a fiber Bragg grating with multiple micro-holes is effectively used for simultaneous and independent refractive index and temperature sensing. The micro-holes are drilled by use of femtosecond laser micromachining. The measurement is implemented by simple detection of the grating resonant wavelength shift and its intensity variation, respectively. The refractive index sensitivity of ~29.50 dB/RIU (refractive index unit) is obtained in the refractive index range between 1.30 and 1.45, with a good linearity. The system operation is simple, convenient and reliable.
