Abstract :
In this paper olive oil is investigated as an alternative to conventional transformer oil. The dielectric properties of this oil are studied and compared with that of mineral oil. Several tests are carried out on various types of olive oils using advanced testing devices and treatment equipment in an oil-testing laboratory. The main tests, specified for transformer oil, are applied for new and old samples of olive oil. The results of these tests were presented for filtered and unfiltered oils. The impact of multi-filtration process on improving olive oil dielectric characteristics is thoroughly studied. The main tests are also performed for two types of olive oil, one obtained from naturally grown plants and the other from irrigated ones. The chemical treatment, applied to filtered samples, has shown significant results in reducing the acidity of olive oil. Finally, the results of applied methods to improve the dielectric characteristics of olive oil are discussed.
