Abstract :
The paper follows the development of the power system that feeds London, a system which was nonexistent 120 years ago and which now charges every feature and business with energy-the power distribution network. It uncovers some of London´s history, explores London´s unique geology and follows technological developments-civil and mechanical as well as electrical-all of which can be attributed to the form of power system we have today. The paper takes a view of electricity distribution beyond 2000, in particular the future impact of regulation, competition and new technology.
