Abstract
It is hard to believe that more than ten years has gone by since I served the IEEE as its 1999 president. That is because being president of IEEE was such a unique opportunity that many of the resulting experiences have been integrated into my professional life. In this article, my objective is to provide a window for readers into the conditions leading to my election, the experiences that unwittingly prepared me to be IEEE president, and my accomplishments in that role.
