Abstract
A re-entrant fibre optic rotation sensor (RE-FORS) with an active ring resonator of length 20 m has been investigated theoretically and experimentally. A semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is inserted within the ring resonator to provide a few decibels of power gain for the light beams travelling in both directions. Experimental results have shown that at an internal power gain of 5.7 dB the scale factor is ~two times larger than at 2.1 dB
