Abstract :
A mysterious interference with reception was reported a few days after the B.B.C. had established full-scale television broadcasts from their transmitter at North Hessary Tor in Devon. In this article the author, who is with the B.B.C, discusses the subsequent investigations, in which he took part. The phenomenon is the subject of a paper (No. 2591) entitled `Phase-Coherent Back-Scatter of Radio Waves at the Surface of the Sea¿, which is published this month in Part B of the Proceedings.
