Abstract :
A novel spot-size converted laser diode, which is based on the interference between guided and leaky modes, has been proposed and demonstrated. We achieved a minimum coupling loss of -3.0 dB to a single-mode fiber and good high-temperature characteristics in a diode with only an 80-μm conversion length.
