Abstract :
The paper presents the efforts of the Indian government in the electrification of its urban and rural areas considering its impact on the environmental preservation. Some of the current initiatives undertaken by the Indian government in response are discussed and the roles of energy efficiency and renewable energy (RE) in meeting these challenges in the future are examined.
