A simple circuit is proposed for automatic unit delay execution during the implementation of digital filters on general purpose microprocessors. The hardware overhead of the circuit is negligible, independent of the filter order and of the number of microprocessors (in the case of multimicroprocessor systems). The software overhead is zero
