Abstract :
Mode-filter properties have been investigated using a complex coefficient eigenvalue equation on a simple structure having an extremely low refractive-index layer as a buffer layer between the guiding layer and the cladding lossy layer. As a result, it is revealed that the attenuation constants become at least an order of magnitude larger for the TE mode than for the TM mode.
