Abstract :
Fuses were undoubtedly the first form of protection to be used in electric circuits, and they have continued to be used in increasing numbers up to the present day. Their importance can readily be seen from the world production of fuselinks, which is currently estimated to be several thousand million per annum. The author discusses basic fuse types and their construction. Fuselink behaviour, in particular arcing, is discussed. Applications of fuses are also briefly discussed
