Abstract :
In general, the dispersion characteristics needed to evaluate the performance of optical fibres are obtained numerically, which is time-consuming. This letter reports a method which is computationally fast and gives accurate results. The variational method used with the propagation relation imposed as a constraint enables the use of an iteration method.
