Abstract :
The advent of the PC meant that powerful applications are now within the reach of most engineering departments. Despite their availability, most UK maintenance relies on the `fix it as it breaks´ philosophy. Concern is now such that the DTI have launched an initiative to bring maintenance into the boardroom. The author considers the development of the PC, examples of engineering management implementation, ease of use during a good maintenance system, its preventative maintenance module, equipment history module, data presentation and the integration between shop-floor systems
