Abstract
A model of learning called participatory learning is introduced. This model allows the representation of learning in environments in which what is already believed plays an important role in the process of learning further information. A central part of this system is the compatibility between observations and belief. The authors also discuss the arousal that occurs when data is repeatedly seen that contradicts previously acquired beliefs
