Abstract :
A new system for measuring the transmittance and reflectance characteristics of lightwave components is described. By employing frequency-tracked narrowband detection after optical heterodyning, a resolution bandwidth as narrow as 3 MHz with a dynamic range of 50 dB is achieved at a scanning speed of 1 GHz/s. The shot-noise-limited sensitivity of the system is also discussed.
