            Abstract : 
Fused fibre couplers, an important component of all present silica based fibre systems, have been fabricated in multimode fluoride fibres for the first time. Coupling ratios of 20-40% and excess losses of <2 dB were obtained over a wide wavelength range in a packaged device.
