Abstract :
This text is intended for filter design and synthesis courses for junior/senior engineering students. As the author suggests quite correctly in the preface, this book is also suitable as an introductory exposition on electric filters to the practicing engineer with basic circuit theory background. Although the book is somewhat voluminous, it covers both analog and digital filter design fundamentals and would be a welcome addition in the general area of signal processing. In this context I would like to point out that most of the well-known texts on filters either talk about analog filters or digital filters only. Thus the reader of this book will be able to compare and contrast the merits and demerits of passive, active, and digital filters and design a proper filter best suited for his / her purpose. The treatment of materials in the book is quite thorough and rigourous. Numerous examples in the book help in the understanding of the theories developed. Problems included at the end of each chapter are straightforward and include some computer program development assignments. However utilization of the existing commercially available filter analysis and synthesis programs is not emphasized.
