Abstract :
The operation of an analogue lightwave system through a dispersive fibre, using a directly modulated 1537 nm distributed feedback laser, is experimentally investigated. Dispersion is shown to result in carrier suppression and the generation of second order sum products. Using the appropriate control of the laser modulation depth, loss limited transmission of eight, broadcast quality, video channels was achieved over 100 km of step index singlemode fibre.
