Abstract :
User-oriented results are presented of noise measurements made on a number of toll telephone circuits within, and terminating in, Canada. Signal-to-noise ratios are given along with tables showing the fraction of noise samples exceeding given values and the fraction of calls having a noise sample exceeding given values. The data were recorded in digital form on tape to preserve maximum dynamic range and measurement bandwidth. It is anticipated that these results will provide the designer of high-speed voiceband data transmission equipment with insight into the environment in which his equipment must operate.
