Abstract
This article dispels some of the myths surrounding employment as an expatriate engineer in the developing world. While the article focuses primarily on generalities applicable to most assignments, elaboration by the author of his own experience as the chief executive of an independent power company in Pakistan illustrates the type of situation senior expatriate engineers may face on acceptance of an overseas position. The construction of a power plant overseen by the author is discussed.
