  • Abstract
    Analytical expressions are derived for the BER, decision threshold and sensitivity penalty caused by the large IF bandwidth in coherent optical ASK receivers, with single filter IF detection and post-detection filtering. Results can be obtained without the use of computer simulations and are valid for single branch, polarisation and phase-diversity ASK receivers.
