Abstract
Vertical external cavity surface emitting laser (VECSEL) that has a continuous tuning over 3.22 to 3.3 μm at temperatures up to 5°C has been demonstrated. This PbSe quantum well VECSEL, developed for hydrocarbon absorption spectroscopy, is one of a range of lead-salt-based VECSELs from a team at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, for mid-IR applications in the 2.5-10 μm wavelength range.
