Abstract :
Input noise to a travelling wave tube (TWT) is suppressed due to the presence of a large saturating carrier. This paper describes a method of calculation and shows that the relationship between output carrier-to-noise ratio (dB) and input carrier-to-noise ratio (dB) is linear. These results compare well with experimental values obtained using the CTS/Hermes satellite.3 Furthermore, the calculations show that the amount of suppression of small signals and noise due to the presence of a large carrier is nearly identical.
