Abstract :
An all-optical beam deflection as high as 1.1 mrad has been obtained in bacteriorhodopsin for a CW pump intensity of ~930 W/cm2 . This is one of the highest non-thermal all-optical deflections for a low driving intensity in a biological medium, which may find application in optical deflectors or space division all-optical switches
